PT Kutai Timber Indonesia together with the Probolinggo City Government has prepared a CSR program in the field of community empowerment to jointly preserve sustainability and improve the level of the economy without having to change natural conditions in ways that are not environmentally friendly

Probolinggo – Through the Corporate Social Responsibility program or often referred to as CSR, PT Kutai Timber Indonesia as a wood manufacturing company producing plywood, woodworking and particle board contributes to community empowerment, one of which is Black Wood Craft Indonesia small-medium enterprise (SME).

Black Wood Craft Indonesia SME is a group of craftsmen from Probolinggo City who produce various kinds of handicrafts that utilize various wood residues. These crafts include 3-dimensional pyrography paintings. The pyrography painting is made of themes related to the environment in Probolinggo City, so that it can be a promotional media for Probolinggo City to attract domestic and foreign tourists. The painting is also used by Probolinggo City Government for a gift or souvenir to guests who come to Probolinggo. In addition, various orders comes from various regions such as South Kalimantan, Jakarta, Surabaya and even Japan.

Through the CSR program in community development field (COMDEV) PT KTI provides basic materials in the form of non-B3 waste, including plywood pieces, pith wood, bare core pieces and Albizia powder. In addition, the CSR also provides work facilities such as sandpaper and hand sanding.

"The materials are from PT KTI's waste. Even sandpaper is also from PT KTI. Because we have partnership with them. Even, in a month we are allocated 3 cubic meters,” said Agustinus Eko Nurwidayanto, as the owner of the SME 3D Pyrography Painting (quoted from Radar Bromo Article 12 September 2018).

"Free raw materials. No matter how much is requested, it will be delivered. We were asked to only calculate the funds obtained from making crafts or art from KTI waste,” he added (quoted from m.jatimtimes.com).

The CSR program aims to empower the community, especially for the people of Probolinggo City. The basic materials provided by PT KTI are given to the community to be processed and be a source of income for the community. The income derived from the CSR program is wholly owned by the community.

The emergence of 3D pyrography paintings is expected to bring other eco-friendly crafts that will utilize wood and wood chips, so that it can be a point of interest and create new jobs in Probolinggo City.

PT KTI still has several CSR programs that are being prepared with the government of Probolinggo City and all stakeholders to jointly preserve sustainability and improve the level of the economy without having to change natural conditions in ways that are not environmentally friendly.
