Our Plantation Activity
PT. Kutai Timber Indonesia have been sponsoring plantation activity since year 2000, cooperate with farmer, farmer association, private and government plantation company, forest observer. We recognize by planting trees and nurturing forests, we support the cycle of planting and harvesting in perpetuity. The cultivation has been doing 3,483,749 trees in 2,697.52 Ha of devide land.
A joint research project for reforestation of tropical rain forest, 3000 HA, is currently carried out in the Sebulu, experimental forest located on East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The members of the joint research are Ministry of Forestry Indonesia ( Forestry Research and Develpment Agency ), PT. Kutai Timber Indonesia, University of Tokyo (Laboratory of Silviculture) and Sumitomo Forestry Co.Ltd.
This Project is Partly supported by funding from RETROF. This project has been undertaken to develop techniques for reforestation of tropical forests deteriorated by forest fires and human activities. The techniques to be developed mst be based on biologically confirmed facts. The project consists of the following three main studies:
1.Artificial plantation experiments;
2.Natural regeneration experiments;
3.Development of plant varieties needed for social forestry. |

All the studies are evaluated by physiological and ecological experiments. Our biotechnological research for more than 5 years resulted the development of Meranti species and the research also resulted:
1.Dipterocarpaceae can be planted in the open area
2.Shorea can be developed with "Tissue Culture" in our nursery
To raise standard of living of the society around the forest research area, we plant fruit tree, which has high economical value, such as Durian, Manggo, Rambutan and Kelengkeng.
Between 2000-2004 PT. Kutai Timber Indonesia, as sub contractor of Taman Nasional Way Kambas, Lampung rehabilitation which was burned. During the years we have cultivated various kind of Dipterocarpaceae family trees. Totaly 417,022 trees in 360.11 Ha land.
We build a seedling in 2.5 Ha in Desa Sepuh Gembol Kec. Wonomerto Probolinggo (1997) and tisue culture laboratory (2004), and seedling in 300 Ha in Kebun Ayerdingin Kec. Krucil Probolinggo (2000), cultivation research in Afdeling Klatakan PTPN XII, Jember(2003).
